What is Animal Farm?
Animal Farm is a short story written by author George Orwell and published in 1945. (Wikipedia, n.d.). Classified as a fairytale novel, Animal Farm outlines the events that take place prior to and mainly after animals on a farm in England overthrow their human farmer, Mr. Jones. The revolution brings about numerous changes, including the generation of a new leader, Napoleon the pig. The book is an allegorical reflection of the 1917 Russian Revolution that established the Soviet Union and led to the implementation of modern day Russia. The characters and incidents referred to in Animal Farm are representative of the real life individuals and historical events that took place before, during, and after the 1917 revolution. That period of dictatorship and political suppression is well depicted in George Orwell’s dystopian novel, Animal Farm.
